Google Maps Timeline, long known as Location History, is the record of places your phone has logged over the years: commutes, road trips, flights, and everyday errands. In 2024-2025 Google moved that record from its servers onto your device and retired the web map that once displayed it.
The data itself is still yours. Every phone can export it as a JSON file, Timeline.json or location-history.json, and older Google Takeout archives such as Records.json remain readable. That single file holds coordinates, timestamps, and often semantic details about each visit and activity.

A raw location history export is thousands of coordinate rows, accurate, but meaningless to look at. Replayed on an animated map, the same data becomes a story: a year of travel compressed into thirty seconds, a honeymoon route for an anniversary post, a cycling season, or an ordinary week that quietly covered surprising ground.
A rendered travel video is also the safest way to share location data. Instead of handing anyone the underlying file, you publish only the moving route you chose, with the canvas, palette, pace, and trimmed endpoints under your control.
Open your export and the parser detects the format automatically, Records.json, timelineObjects, semanticSegments, Location History arrays, or generic coordinate lists. Invalid points are dropped, dense tracks are thinned for smooth playback, and the route is projected onto a stylized backdrop drawn entirely on canvas.
Press play and the route animates with a moving marker, a live date, and accumulating distance. Export records the canvas right in your browser, MP4 where the codec is available, WebM elsewhere, with no render queue, no watermark, and no account.
Most online map tools upload your file or fetch tiles from a map server, so a third party learns your coordinates. This visualizer does neither: parsing, animation, and video encoding all run inside the browser tab, and the backdrop is generated locally instead of requested from a tile provider.
Close the tab and the working data is gone. Nothing is stored on a server, no account ties the file to an identity, and the optional endpoint trim keeps home and workplace out of the finished video. The privacy policy is short because there is little to disclose.
Match the canvas to the destination: portrait fills Stories, Reels, and TikTok, landscape suits YouTube and X, and square sits well in a feed. The Night palette with a bold route line pops on dark feeds, while Sunset and Forest fit daytime trips. For a multi-year location history, give the replay 60 or 90 seconds so distant hops stay readable.
Name the story after the place and the year, future you will search for exactly that. Switch off the upcoming path for a cleaner reveal, keep the date and distance overlay for context, and preview once with the endpoint trim enabled before publishing anything that starts at your front door.
