Export your Google Maps Timeline data
Since 2024-2025 Google stores Timeline (location history) on your phone, so the export starts on the device. Pick your platform below, it takes about a minute, and the JSON file opens directly in Timeline Visualizer.
On Android

Open your phone's Settings app.

Go to Location, then Location services, then Timeline. On some phones Timeline appears directly under Location.

Tap Export Timeline data, then confirm with Continue and Save.

A JSON file such as Timeline.json is saved on your phone, that is the file to open here.
On iPhone (iOS)

Open the Google Maps app and tap your profile picture.

Go to Settings, then Personal content.

Tap Export Timeline data. In the share sheet, choose Save to Files and confirm.

The export is saved as location-history.json, that is the file to open here.
Old Google Takeout archives
Desktop and Google Takeout Timeline exports were discontinued, but an older archive still works: Records.json, Location History JSON, and semanticSegments files are all recognized.
Good to know
- Most phones export JSON; a few regions receive CSV, which this tool does not read yet.
